HOW YOU CAN HELP DURING COVID-19

As Los Angeles and so many other cities across the country are initiating stay-at-home orders and business shutdowns in defense of the COVID-19 spread, the need for increased support from our communities is critical for animals.
What does this mean? City shelters, adoption centers, boarding-day care facilities all have closed to public, forcing adoption rates to drop drastically. While the public can still reach out to their locals shelters online and by phone (please, do so!) the process of adoption is far slower and more complex that it was before COVID-19.

While adoption rates drop in your city, so does the space for new rescue animals, leaving more animals homeless, in-need or lost.

So, how can you help?
Adopt
  • Adopting is the best way to save an animal. View the Adopt section of our website at https://www.animalwellnessfoundation/adopt to locate animal profiles and applications online. To expedite the adoption process, please complete the linked questionnaire using the Apply to Adopt button on each animal profile.
  • Applying does not bind you to an adoption but provides our team with the information we need to match you properly with an animal. Please allow up to 3 business days for a reply.
  • The same search can be done on your local shelter's website. Los Angeles or nearby residents can visit http://www.laanimalservices.com/adopt/finding-a-companion/ to search adoptable animals and to get in contact with your local shelter directly. The same applies for any city. Reach out and be patient!
  • Remember, take some time to think about the best match for you and your home. Consider the size and layout of your living space, your activity level, animal experience and others living in your home.
DONATE
  • Gifts Directly Supporting Animal Care - Donating funds toward care and medical treatment is an enormous way to help our group maintain all needed supplies, medicine and hospital treatment for our animals during COVID-19. It allows us to keep foster homes stocked with pet supplies and to follow through with critical medical appointments at our hospital so treatments and care do not cease.
  • What else will your donations be used toward? We're building a fund for current pet owners who have lost their jobs or now receive reduced income due to COVID-19 and need medical care for their animals.
DONATE NOW
  • Donating Food  Unopened and non-expired dog, puppy, cat or kitten food donations are a huge help to our Los Angeles facility. You must contact us first at info@animalwellnessfoundation.org before arranging a food drop-off donation.
FOSTER
Give a homeless animal a safe and comfortable place to live while promoting their adoption, reducing your own stress and adding joy into your stay-at-home period.

Become a foster for Animal Wellness Foundation:
  1. After you've considered a foster care commitment and the best animal type for you, complete our questionnaire below.
  2. Type the words "FOSTER APPLICATION" in the Animal Name Field at the top of your application and answer the questions as if you were adopting.
  3. If your application is approved, you will be contacted with home-visit video instructions.
  4. If you do not hear from us right away, do not be discouraged! Your information will be stored into our database and we will reach out as soon as we can.
Fosters are supplied with food, medicine, harness and leash. Other supplies can be shipped. Donations of toys, treats, bowls and bedding are encouraged if fosters are able.

Fostering for Los Angeles City Shelters:
Fostering Animals at Shelters in ANY City:
  • Start an online search for the city animal shelters nearest to your home.
  • Locate their website and phone number to learn about how you can begin the foster or adoption process.

#SOCIALDISTANCINGBUDDY
Due to staff cuts and closing at a partner adoption center, Sugar has lost her spot to meet many potential forever guardians. Help us find our hero dog her best home ASAP! Her future guardians will be active and outdoorsy; have large dog experience and love rescues. This goofy, loving girl is smart and social. Due to her size we recommend no small kids. No cats. Hikes: yes! Pack walks: yes! Cuddles and toys: yes, yes!

Long-term fosters accepted as well during this search.

Our Adoption Process

Our adoption process was designed to help ensure that we select the best homes for our animals and includes a questionnaire, meeting and home visit. We take special care to match the right home with the right pet, ensuring a lifetime of love for both the pet and the adopter.

Volunteer with Rescues

We cannot stress enough what a huge difference our volunteers make toward the well being of our rescues. From playtime and walks to fostering and adoption events, our dogs and cats are enriched by the time spent with each volunteer. Thank you to our amazingly compassionate volunteers and friends for the work you do!

Animal Wellness Foundation.org is helping animals through veterinary care, rescue and adoptions. You can help by volunteering and by becoming a sustaining donor.

The Animal Wellness Foundation (Foundation) is a Los Angeles-based private charitable organization with a mission of helping animals by making veterinary care available to everyone with a pet, regardless of economic ability. We organize rescue efforts and medical services for dogs and cats in need and help homeless pets find a loving caregiver. We are advocates for getting veterinarians to the front lines of the animal welfare movement; promoting responsible pet ownership; and vaccinating animals against infectious diseases such as distemper. We also support policies that prevent animal cruelty and that alleviate suffering. We believe helping animals helps us all.
