Hope for Huck: 13-year-old lab

UPDATE: Huck's skin and ear treatment continues as he is preparing for his foster home stay which begins in August. His hair is growing in nicely and he's slowly gaining weight. Huck shows us how comfortable and happy he is by continuing to suckle on his blankets, perking up for all visitors, walking happily and gobbling down all his meals. We even discovered he loves to nibble on whole, skinned bananas (see video below). Animal Wellness Centers will continue to treat his skin infection and the arthritis which effects his back legs.

STORY: Huck was almost euthanized before the Foundation stepped in, seeing a severely neglected 13-year-old Labrador who was still very much alert, mobile and nothing short of sweet. Upon initial examining, doctors at Animal Wellness Centers discovered Huck has advanced ear and skin infections - extremely inflamed skin from untreated mange mites and chronic arthritis.

Huck's Story Continues..
First few days with Huck.

MISS MABEL IS MAKING IT THROUGH!
UPDATE: Mabel has more surgery ahead to remove mammary masses and a hernia. Despite this she is enjoying all the dogs, staff and volunteers, spending time in the yard or at the front desk and being her spunky self. The Foundation funds all medical care with your support, including her successful dental and spay surgeries. Adopt or foster Mabel!

STORY: Mabel was rescued from the South LA shelter with a mouth of missing teeth, a filthy coat and hip arthritis. The Foundation discoverd more issues that are being treated at sister hospital, Animal Wellness Centers. She has been giving her all the care and comfort she deserves. Her adorable tongue hangs low only because of missing teeth. She's got a lot of personality and love to give.

Thor: Big Boy, Big Heart

UPDATE: The foundation is funding training for Thor so he can work on maturing his playtime manners and reduce jumpinessThor needs a foster ASAP. Contact us for more information.

STORY: Thor is full of life: friendly, sweet, playful and very outgoing. He needs a very active home to fulfill his daily exercise and social needs; as well as providing routine and structure. Thor plays well with other friendly dogs his size. No small children recommended given his size and playfulness.

COOPER'S SEARCH FOR HOME CONTINUES

Cooper is seeking an active, dog experienced home as described below.

Returned twice, Cooper is being extremely patient in awaiting someone who understands and accepts him in a forever or foster home. Cooper wants to please and knows how to love his trusted companion once bonded. His future home will allow him to enjoy LOTS of fetch, walks, runs and exercise for his well being.

He is best in a home that can respect his spacial boundaries by limiting coddling and honoring him with structure, athletic adventures and consistent companionship. Cooper is very well crate trained. The foundation will fund and arrange additional training as needed and suggests no small kids due to guarding behaviors.

ADOPT OR FOSTER COOPER!

HUNTER IS COUNTING ON YOU!
UPDATEHunter is seeking an experienced owner/foster to be his loyal companion.

Hunter bonds through walks and play - he loves to fetch in our yard and adores all of the hospital kennel tech at Animal Wellness Centers. He is doggie friendly with most, and becomes a very loyal companion to those who give him constant care and love. No small children. Medical baths and ointments required while healing and all treatments are funded by the Foundation.
ADOPT OR FOSTER HUNTER!

STORY: Two-year-old Hunter had an advanced case of mange, known as Demodectic Mange — overgrowth of mites usually diagnosed in young dogs without fully functioning or compromised immune systems. It is not contagious. He was likely living in a stressful situation with very little care before the Foundation rescued him.

Hunter immediately began treatment. Understandably, he was uncomfortable and irritable with severely inflamed, dry and wounded skin. Slowly, Hunter began to relax and the treatment is helping improve his skin dramatically.

Our Adoption Process

Our adoption process was designed to help ensure that we select the best homes for our animals and includes a questionnaire, meeting and home visit. We take special care to match the right home with the right pet, ensuring a lifetime of love for both the pet and the adopter.

Volunteer with Rescues

We cannot stress enough what a huge difference our volunteers make toward the well being of our rescues. From playtime and walks to fostering and adoption events, our dogs and cats are enriched by the time spent with each volunteer. Animal Wellness Foundation.org is helping animals through veterinary care, rescue and adoptions. You can help by volunteering and by becoming a sustaining donor.

The Animal Wellness Foundation (Foundation) is a Los Angeles-based private charitable organization with a mission of helping animals by making veterinary care available to everyone with a pet, regardless of economic ability. We organize rescue efforts and medical services for dogs and cats in need and help homeless pets find a loving caregiver. We are advocates for getting veterinarians to the front lines of the animal welfare movement; promoting responsible pet ownership; and vaccinating animals against infectious diseases such as distemper. We also support policies that prevent animal cruelty and that alleviate suffering. We believe helping animals helps us all.
