BROWSER 2/21/21

Browser, a 6-year-old male cat, was starved for love when we examined him. It was hard to hear his heart beat over his purring! Original guardians never returned animal services calls in attempt to reunite them nor did they reach out to find him. Who knows how long this guy was struggling on the street, underweight with skin and upper respiratory infections as well as broken down teeth. See that sad face in his shelter photo below? Sad, no more!

We’ve provided Browser with full medical care, treatments for his infections, quality food, a loving foster home and comforting accessories. He’ll be neutered and adoptable very soon.

UPDATE 7/1/21:

Browser overcame his respiratory infections with continued medical and foster care, and received his neuter and intense dental surgery. He’s no longer suffering with mouth pain and the risk of serious infection and he’s in his foster-to-adopt home!

FRIDA 2/9/21

Meet Frida. She’s only 13 weeks and needs help. We’re investigating her bloated belly (could be worms, hopefully, because that’s easy than other possibilities) and awkward gait when walking. Her spay was deferred at the shelter because of her medical issues and so we’ll now be taking on all expenses. She’s not exhibiting pain but is extremely clingy and purrs instantly at the touch. She is just adorable and we hope we can make her more comfortable and see that she lives a long and loved life. We pulled her from our friends at the West Los Angeles Animal Shelter.

UPDATE: 3/1/21 - Frida is thriving and has gained strength in her back legs, allowing her to play and jump with no problem. She just needed proper food, love, and living conditions. She was spayed as well and all healed up! She’s ready for her home.

UPDATE 4/1/21 : Frida was adopted and lives a life of love and pampering with her new mom!

We will update here and on socials, once we are able to get Frida examined and tested and share next steps with everyone!

JOE JOE 2/25/21

You might remember our urgent posts on social media seeking a foster a couple weeks back. Joe Joe was in the shelter as a stray, battling an upper respiratory infection and scabies. He was also in tact (not neutered) and already estimated at 5.5 years old.

Below is his city shelter mug shot —poor little guy. He’s come a long way thanks to medical care at Animal Wellness Centers and with foster love. We’ve neutered him and got his beautiful coat growing back! He’s super affectionate too.

UPDATE 6/15/12:

Joe Joe’s skin infection and dental disease was treated and his health was brought back! Joe Joe was adopted by Mary who adores him!

MONTY 2/8/21

Monty was removed from his last home by animal services. His guardian is no longer fit to care for him. Monty was found severely matted and flea infested. He is a bit anxious and on alert. We really don’t know how long Monty’s neglect went on for.

Monty needs fecal and skin tests, as well as a senior blood panel and possibly more. Monty is already neutered and vaccinated and as soon as we can get him evaluated, we will be moving him into foster care, where he can relax and ultimately be adopted.

UPDATE: 2/27/21 - Monty was moved into foster where he could finally relax and receive proper care. We examined him and all tests were negative. We also set him up with a trainer evaluation which was recorded for future adopters. He did great! He corrects easily with confident owners and can relax on leash when the guardian takes the lead. He loves to lay around with you and also plays well with toys.

UPDATE: 5/15/21

Monty’s foster adopted!

We will update you on Monty’s health and foster status here and on socials ASAP!

CANNON 3/1/21

Meet 9-month-old Cannon who was a little spicy to start, but we don’t blame him. He was in the city shelter and flagged for medical with an upper respiratory infection. We pulled him out and gave him immediate medical care; shortly after we had him neutered. He has slowly relaxed and become a purr machine. He deserves to be free, playing in a loving home. He’s currently living in our kittie dorm with other young cats and kittens, while waiting for his forever home.

UPDATE 5/1/21:

Cannon was cured of his infection in our care, neutered and shortly after adopted!

HUNTER 1/1/21

Muzzles may not look attractive but they allow dogs like Hunter, who have real biting issues, to still enjoy the outdoors and fun pack walks with our experienced volunteers. After years of extensive training, unfortunately our handsome Hunter still has the impulse to bite in various situations and this has caused his original owner to surrender him back to us.

Hunter is incredibly smart and knows all his commands. He loves his main caretakers at our facility and remains loyal. Due to his intrinsically anxious nature he prefers little to no change in routine, a small set of caretakers (1-3) and no intrusiveness into his space. His future forever guardian must have an understanding of reactive dogs, a calm quiet home and respect of Hunter’s boundaries. He will thrive with one-on-one outdoor activity, like runs and hikes, without groups. He may always need to be muzzled in public.

If you would like to donate toward Hunter’s ongoing training and for the training support of his future adopter, please use this link or the button below. Expenses will also be used toward boarding and food so that we can continue caring for him in a secure environment.

UPDATE FEBRUARY 2021 - Hunter still has weekly training and staff has made progress with him. He still has set-backs from time to time and they’re still based in him wanting to protect his guardian. Training will continue and so will the search for his perfect home.

We are committed to seeing that Hunter has a second chance and will update his progress here and on socials.

Ongoing programs at Animal Wellness Foundation that need your support include: Rescue and Medical Care and Disaster Relief. If you’re adopting, please choose the Adoption menu item during the donation process. You’ll also have the option to share a personal note along with your donation. Your contribution is 100% TAX deductible.

Donations help us save more animals! By far the biggest expense of rescuing animals is veterinary care. Each animal brought into the Animal Wellness Foundation requires vaccinations, deworming treatments, flea treatments, parasite checks, FeLV/FIV testing (cats) or heartworm testing (dogs), a spay or neuter surgery, and microchipping before they can be adopted into their forever home. In addition, AWF does not shy away from rescuing sick, injured, or neglected animals, which require extensive treatments and sometimes surgery to help make them ready for adoption. Also, donations help us pay for food and boarding expenses until a foster or permanent home can be found.

Donate toward vital everyday rescue needs or choose a program to contribute toward:

  • Rescue & Medical Care Fund

  • Disaster Relief Fund

  • Adoption Donation - approved adopters donate toward future rescue & medical care.

Every little bit counts.

YOUR DONATIONS WILL GO TOWARD THE CARE, TREATMENT AND REHOMING PROCESS FOR THESE ANIMALS AND MORE LIKE THEM.
